Shadow and Bone

Our Approach

"Spectral Studios was thrilled to join the VFX crew of ‘Shadow and bone’ and get the opportunity to see and scan the incredible sets and designs of this series.

The team completed the work on seven episodes enhancing fight scenes with CG Weapons, blades, arrows, blood, debris, muzzle flashes, sparks, smoke. Life-size Sandskiffs and harbours were scanned with heavy lifter drones and from cherrypickers. Severed limbs from the prosthetics department and several ‘magical items’, knives, guns from the props department were photoscanned. Custom carriages and locomotives were also created to expand the “Grishaverse”.

As there was lots of water, light and shadow, simulations were required, the sets where the ‘magic’’ happened were scanned throughout Hungary, including parts of the Kiscelli museum, the ruins of Széchenyi-Wenckheim castle in Békés County, the mirrored ball room of Festetics castle in Keszthely, the Royal Exchange Palace in Budapest.

The team also created lots of complex invisible effects from wire removals to 3D Set extensions and Prop replacements requiring animations. For set extensions we scanned the tent camp built at the NFI Studios in Fót, as well as some in the Pilis hills. "
